Cop-out or Acceptance?

I've decided not to pursue acting after all.

It's just too stressful trying to deal with my stutter. Once I stutter on a particular line, it's a Herculean effort to get it to come out smoothly again.

I'm going to continue with my acting class, and perhaps take a couple more, because the people are fun and I enjoy reading the plays and figuring out the characters. But I'm giving up my dream of getting back on stage in an actual performance.

I'm comfortable with my decision, but I'm wondering whether this counts as a cop-out or simply an acceptance of my limitations.

How does one tell the difference?

cop out? limitations? whatever.

it's about how important acting is to you personally, and how important "success" is to your life.

if you love acting, do it. if you love a successful job, and think stuttering will get in the way, don't do it. it's all a matter of what makes you happy.

i'm a soon-to-be lawyer and a closet stutterer, and i'm still looking for what makes me happy. it's good you at least know there's a job out there that would be fulfilling.

Thank you for writing.

You make some valid points. It is all about finding something that makes us happy.

I haven't figured out yet what that is for me. At the moment, it's not acting. That could change in the future. It might not.

Good luck with your legal studies. You can do a lot with a law degree, even if you decide practicing law in the traditional sense isn't for you.

Best wishes,
Sophie
